| The
Brothers were
ambitious when they first came to Australia in 1883 and attempted to
respond
to all the invitations they received from Bishops to run schools in
their
dioceses. As a result the Brothers soon found themselves scattered far
and thin throughout New South Wales.
By
the 1920s it was
decided that this was not using the limited Patrician manpower in an
effective
and efficient way. It was decided to remove the Brothers from all the
country
schools and to concentrate their efforts in Sydney only.
It
was not until
1968 that the Brothers felt able to respond to a call outside Sydney.
This
was to Aitape in Papua New Guinea.
