"In
January 1885 Albury parochial scholl was taken up in charge of Bros
Laurence
Ryan, Malachy Dwyer and James Long. Inside a month (Feb 15) Brother
Malachy
Dwyer got drowned in the Murray River while bathing." In January 1885
three
young Brothers came from Bathurst to take charge of the school leaving
Goulburn with only two Brothers.
Little has
come down to us
about the Brothers at Albury. The staff was always small. In May 1895
the
Provincial Superior Brother Anthony Lee made a canonical visitation to
Albury and found that the school was flourishing and the Brothers "well
and happy". However the Brothers were living very poorly.
In 1898
Brother Alphonsus
Delaney withdrew tha Brothers against the wishes of the people and the
pastor. This withdrawal was mainly a result of the withdrawal of the
Brothers
from the whole Goulburn diocese because of disagreements with the
diocsesan
authorities.
