The Patrican Brothers were invited to Liverpool in 1954. Like many of the Catholic schools of the time, its beginnings were humble and poor. If it were not for the generosity of the Charity Sisters it may not have happened at all. Even then, for the next couple of years,  Patrician Brothers Liverpool was little more than a leaky tin shed.

Brother Joseph Tierney travelled from the Fairfield monastery each day. But due to ill health Brother Joseph had to retire in the same year. His place was taken by Brother Ignatius Barrett. This began his long association with Liverpool.

Over the next few years the school quickly grew, more Brothers were assigned to Liverpool, and a monastery was built. Under the Principalships of

Brother Joseph Tierney  -  Brother Ignatius Barrett
Brother Gerald Egan - Brother Basil Downey (Primary)
Brother Patrick OâConnell  -  Brother Cronan OâMeara
Brother Benedict Olsen  -  Brother Anthony Dubois
Brother Jude Byrne  - Brother Matthew Mahoney

the school became a beacon of Catholic education in the western suburbs of Sydney.

Eventually, with the diminishing numbers of vocations, it became apparent that the Patrician Congregation was no longer able to provide Brothers for the classroom. And eventually not even a Brother to be Principal. In 1999 the Patrician monastery closed its doors for the last time. One year later, the last Patrician Principal in Liverpool, Brother Matthew Mahoney, retired from his position.

To commemorate the departure of the Patrician Brothers from Liverpool and to thank them for all that they had achieved in the school, the staff of the school organised a farewell liturgy. Very special attention was given to Brother Matthew. Matthew had been Principal of the school for over eleven years and finishes as the final Patrician principal of the College.

This farewell liturgy was held in the recently finished Performing Arts Centre, a state-of-the-art drama and music facility. A far cry from the tin -shed classroom where it all began.
