Visitation of the Superior General
|
|
The fifteenth
Superior General of the Patrician Brothers, Brother Jerome Ellens, is
currently visiting the Brothers of the Australian and Papua New Guinean
Province. The Superior General is the international leader of the
Congregation, and is elected by a representative group of Brothers from
around the world.
Brother Jerome is the first Indian-born Brother to be elected Superior
General, but not the first Brother from India to be Superior General:
in 1906 an Irish Brother living in India was elected, his name was
Jerome as well: Br Jerome Byrne.
The current Brother Jerome, while quite young, is no stranger to
leadership having been a school principal in India for many years, and
having been Vicar General (second only to the Superior General)
immediately before being elected Superior General.
He will spend a
couple of months with us visiting the Brothers in Sydney and in Aitape
and Wewak in Papua New Guinea. It is always a time of great inspiration
to have our Congregational leader with us, and his visit also helps to
link us with the other Patrician Brothers around the world. (Photo: With Brothers at Ryde and
below addressing Principals and fellow Patricians about the Brothers in
India and Kenya.)
Br
Jerome's most obvious traits are his humility and gentleness. He is
also very much a people-person who likes to get out and meet as many
people as he can. Already he has attended and addressed meetings of
Sydney Religious Brothers and Sisters, and a meeting of the Prinicpals
of Patrician-linked schools.
