On three afternoons per week - all candidates were involved in an outreach program – visiting sick people in the camps and reading or storying  with them. This gave the family members a time of respite. This has indeed been a very rewarding and fulfilling experience for all parties.

On Tuesday 18th October, they joined the Junior professed under the guidance of Brother Thomas Rice (Co-ordinator) for a Personal Development Day for the students in Grade 7 and 8 at Aitape primary School (Above photos). This was a first for the school. The day began at 8.30 a.m. and concluded at 3.30 p.m. An outline of the program and presenters follows:

Session 1.  Topic: Drugs/ Alcohol…
Presenters BrothersNorbert Yeku and Thomas Bosip

Session 2.   Topic: Friends, Friendship and relationships.
Presenter Brother Peter Seiwo.

Session 3:  Topic: My Future
Presenter: Brother James Mara

Session 4.   Topic:  Safe Sex/ HIV Aids:
Presenters  Brothers Apel Daniel and Brother Felix Surwa

The day came to a conclusion with all students/teachers gathering in St. Joachim's church for a liturgy of thanksgiving. This session was presented by Brother Thomas Rice. Overall the day was a very worthwhile experience and one certainly appreciated by the school community.

Besides being involved in all aspects of daily living, the men engaged in manual work. Some major projects were completed e.g.

(1) New  retaining wall along the front of the Novitiate house and some new garden beds. (Photo)
(2) Provision of a new rubbish hole for waste disposal products.
(3) Maintenance and repair of some water tanks.

Overall we have had the pleasure of a very committed group of young men, who displayed lots of initiative and maturity. Well disciplined, mature in outlook and got on very well  together.

We say “Thank You” to these young men for what they have given to the community on Bishops Hill and pray God’s blessings upon them as they contemplate their futures.
